Civic-Link Update
3 weeks 5 days ago

Our schools and youth groups have been working hard on their projects from September to December.  Both pupils and staff have reported very enjoyable and beneficial exchange residentials.  The next phase will be for students to research their issue and produce an action plan to have their issue addressed by the powers that be!  We'll keep you posted on the issues that the young people would liked solved within their communities.

Civic-Link gets a Human Rights update
40 weeks 6 days ago

We have recently reviewed  Civic-Link and have adapted it into a human rights based project.  This has been done in conjunction with Lesley Emerson from the School of Education at QUB and we are pleased to announce that the teaching pack has now been completed.

This month, in order to launch our new project, we hosted a two day teacher training event in Newcastle.  It was attended by 12 international civic educators and 19 teachers from NI and RoI.  The event was a great success with the mix of participants involved and high quality of programme delivery making for a vibrant, dynamic, informative and fun few days.

We hope that through engaging the young people in Human Rights Civic-Link, they will develop their capacity to:

  • understand the role of government in upholding human rights standards;
  • articulate problems in their community within a human rights framework;
  • identify human rights based alternative public policy solutions to these problems;
  • recognise and value their own rights and the rights of others particularly in relatioin to issues related to identity.
